The Rotary Club of Red Deer has raised $32,000 to distribute to seven not-for-profit organizations in the Red Deer area.

The club’s fall granting period has reached final approvals, and the following seven organizations will be receiving funds:

  • Red Deer Community Band Society (formerly the Red Deer Royals)
  • Central Alberta Regional Science Fair
  • Red Deer Action Group
  • Red Deer Festival of Performing Arts
  • Red Deer YMCA (Northside)
  • The Sendero Centre (formerly the Central Alberta Sexual Assault Support Centre)
  • Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter

“Every great community thrives when people come together to support one another. We believe Red Deer is a great community, and as Rotarians, we are proud to empower these local organizations to make a difference,” shared Vangi Willington, chair of the community service committee.

A substantial amount of the grant was supported by the sale of 50/50 tickets at Red Deer Rebels games, the Club says.

“The Rotary Club of Red Deer is proud to support these very worthwhile nonprofits and look forward to continuing to support the numerous charities and non-profits in our city. It is what we Rotarians do,” added Phil Hyde, co-president.

The intake period for spring grants is now open and short form registration is available until April 15. Not-for-profit organizations must meet certain criteria to advance in selection. More information and the registration form is available online.

Recently, the Rotary Club of Red Deer celebrated 100 years of operation and has raised money to support many organizations, causes and projects in that time. Since its inception, the club has invested more than $19 million into making Red Deer a better community.
