Pair sentenced in Red Deer RCMP police vehicle ramming incident

Two people charged after a Red Deer RCMP vehicle was allegedly rammed over a dozen times during an incident last spring have now been sentenced.

Jared Michael Lee McLeod, 31, of Red Deer, was previously sentenced in Red Deer Court of Justice on June 26, 2024, to a year-and-a-half in jail, less 90 days pre-trial custody, leaving him 450 days or 15 months left to serve.

He was convicted on counts of unauthorized possession of firearm, possession of prohibited firearm, resisting a peace officer, and make/possess identity documents.

While co-accused Tia Danielle Kikoak, 27, of Red Deer, was sentenced on March 19, 2025, to 12 months imprisonment, satisfied by time already served.

She was convicted on counts of resisting a peace officer, dangerous operation, make/possess identity documents, fail to comply with release order, and possess property under $5,000.

Red Deer RCMP say it was about 2:30 p.m. on April 26, 2024, when they received a report of a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot on the north side of the city.

When members arrived, they tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the suspect rammed the officers’ vehicle, an alleged 15 times.

Mounties say the two suspects attempted to flee on foot but were quickly arrested.

Tia Kikoak was charged with fifteen offences including:

  • Assault on police officer with a weapon
  • Resist arrest
  • Dangerous operation
  • Possession of stolen property
  • Unauthorized possession of firearm
  • Possession of firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Careless use of firearm
  • Operation while impaired
  • Fail to comply with release order x2

Jared Mcleod, meantime, was charged with the following offences:

  • Unauthorized possession of firearm
  • Possession of firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Careless use of firearm
  • Possession of firearm contrary to prohibition order
  • Possession for purpose of trafficking
  • Resist arrest
  • Possession of identity documents
  • Common nuisance
