Athletes of the Week: March 14-16

Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Athletics is very proud to announce Eiley Morrison (Queens Indoor Track) and Ryan Collett (Kings Rodeo) as the RDP Athletes of the Week:

Eiley Morrison
Queens Indoor Track
Program – Bachelor of Science in Nursing (first year)
Hometown – Lacombe, Alberta

This past weekend, Lacombe’s Eiley Morrison was a key contributor to the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Indoor Track team winning gold at the two-day Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Indoor Track Championships in Edmonton. In only her first year, Morrison has made an impact on her team and across the league.

Morrison, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing student, contributed 16 of the Queens’ 76 team points, which tied for fifth most in the ACAC with teammate Zoey Longman.

The talented first-year student-athlete was a member of the Queens 4 x 200 m relay team (1:50.55) that sealed a silver medal, only 0.3 seconds behind first-place Concordia University. Morrison (7.93) won silver in the women’s 60 m final and bronze (43.02) in the women’s 300 m final.

Morrison was named to the ACAC Women’s Indoor Track All-Conference team.

Kings Rodeo
Program – Electrician Apprenticeship (fourth year)
Hometown – Grande Prairie, Alberta

Ryan Collett, an Electrician apprentice, delivered impressive performances at the Olds Spring Rodeo. On the second day of competition, Collett (11.9) won Tie Down Roping. He (7.4) also placed second in Steer Wrestling on Sunday. Collett (heeler) and Chloe Lanouette (header), from Olds College of Agriculture & Technology, ranked 10th in Team Roping (25.5).

Collett has demonstrated skill and perseverance throughout the Canadian Collegiate Rodeo Association season, which have helped him qualify for the Canadian Collegiate Rodeo Finals. He will compete in Tie Down Roping and Steer Wrestling at the Finals held in Rimbey from May 16-18.

Collett is a fourth-year student-athlete from Grande Prairie.
