Mar 17, 2025 | 10:57 AM

The 10th annual CommUnity Power of One event is this Friday, March 21 in Red Deer.

Occurring on the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, CommUnity Power of One offers a full day of impactful programming centred around reflection and action.

“This event encourages participants to reflect on past injustices, envision a more inclusive future, and take meaningful action toward creating positive change. Through a series of engaging sessions and discussions, attendees will gain practical tools to combat racism while fostering diversity, understanding, and equity in their communities,” organizers with Red Deer Local Immigration Partnership say.

“The event underscores the power of collective action in addressing racial discrimination and promotes valuable connections and learning opportunities to build a more inclusive society.”

This year’s keynote speakers are Titilope Sonuga, a captivating poet, playwright, and performer, as well as Lawrence Aimoe, one of Canada’s first trained Indigenous crisis negotiators.

Tickets are free; further information and registration are available on Eventbrite.

Doors open at the iHotel and Conference Centre (6500 67 St.) at 8:30 a.m. The event ends around 4 p.m.
