Celebrating francophones

ACFA Winter Carnival set for next week in Red Deer

Mar 13, 2025 | 1:20 PM

The Association Canadienne Française de l’Alberta (ACFA) Régionale de Red Deer will be holding their annual Winter Carnival next week.

On March 22, the free event will take place at 4617 62 Street in Red Deer from noon to 5 p.m. with activities for all ages.

Alex Hebert, Assistant to ACAF Red Deer and event organizer, says the carnival is all about bringing the francophone community together.

“We also love it when other communities come along. Whether you speak English, French, Arabic, or you name it, it’s just a fun activity for the whole family,” he said.

The Carnival has been going on for years to celebrate French-Canadian traditions during Francophonie Month in March.

The event includes live music, dancing from a french dance group from Edmonton, and dishes such as maple taffy and homemade poutine. Guest speakers will also say a few words including Red Deer Mayor Ken Johnston.

A winter wonderland will be created and there will also be face painting, arts and crafts workshops, fire pits and much more to enhance the winter ambiance.

This year, the events theme will be about the fight against racism.

“With everything that’s been going on nowadays, we as ACFA want to reunite everyone together,” Hebert added. “There will be an organization from Edmonton that will come to speak about it.”

In addition, a comedy show called Spectacle Humoristique will be held later that evening at 8 p.m. at Danielle’s (5008 48 St).
