It’s four-and-a-half years in jail for one of two men charged following a robbery at a Blackfalds 7-11 last year.

Jackson Mackenzie Cann, 19, of Red Deer, was sentenced in Red Deer Court of Justice on Feb. 27, 2025, to 1,642 days in jail after being convicted on one count of robbery and one count of disguised with intent. Seven other charges were withdrawn.

His co-accused, 21-year-old Quinlan Louis Bradford, also of Red Deer, sees his matter return to Red Deer Court of Justice on June 12, 2025.

It was on Nov. 11, 2024, at 12:36 a.m., when Blackfalds RCMP responded to a report of a robbery with a firearm from the 7-11 in Blackfalds.

According to police, two unidentified people in “Scream” masks entered the store, threatened the staff, and discharged a shotgun into the ceiling. Mounties say the suspects left after taking cash from the till.

The shotgun was described as having a unique stainless-steel barrel.

On Dec. 17, 2024, Blackfalds RCMP General Investigations Section (GIS) and general duty members with the assistance of Sylvan Lake GIS and Innisfail GIS, executed a search warrant at a residence in Red Deer.

As a result of the search, police seized items related to the robbery, including masks, a shotgun, and a vehicle.

Red Deer RCMP arrested and charged 19-year-old Jackson Macenzie Cann with:

  • Robbery with a firearm
  • Disguise with intent
  • Discharge a firearm with intent
  • Firearms offences (X6)

Then on Jan. 8, 2025, Blackfalds RCMP General Investigations Section, with the assistance of Sylvan Lake GIS and Blackfalds general duty officers, located and arrested 21-year-old Red Deer resident Quinlan Louis Bradford.

Police then executed a second search warrant, locating additional items used in the robbery, including masks and an airsoft handgun.

Quinlan Louis Bradford was charged with:

  • Robbery with a firearm
  • Disguise with intent
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Discharge a firearm with intent
  • Using a firearm in the commission of an offence

“This was an extremely effective investigation after a very brazen armed robbery,” said Cpl. Troy Savinkoff. “Alberta RCMP units from Blackfalds, Innisfail, Sylvan Lake, and Red Deer contributed to this successful operation.”
