Counterfeit $100 bills circulating in Rocky Mountain House

Rocky Mountain House RCMP are issuing a warning to the public after receiving reports of counterfeit $100 bills being circulated in the community. Local businesses are urged to be vigilant as these fake bills, identified as “prop money,” have been used to purchase goods and services in the area.

Counterfeit currency can features several distinct markings that make it easily identifiable:

• The serial numbers on the bills are all identical and appear darker than usual.
• A hologram on the front of the bill near the top clearly states “prop money.”
• The words “prop money” has been scratched out.
• Additionally, some bills are missing the braille that is typically present on legitimate currency.

RCMP officials are reminding the public that it is an offense to knowingly circulate counterfeit or prop currency. Business owners and employees are encouraged to examine $100 bills carefully and report any suspicious currency immediately.
