Although it’s still cold outside, it’s never too early to start gearing up for Battle at the Beach, Sylvan Lake’s seventh annual ball hockey tournament with registration now open.

This year’s event takes place June 14-15. Participants can register online and must be registered by May 23. The cost is $450 per youth team, and $550 for adults.

Teams are encouraged to create their own unique jerseys for this three-on-three tournament (maximum of seven players per team).

The event includes U7-U18 divisions, an adult division and a new, all ages female division. Players may move up a division but cannot move down.

Division birth years are as follows:

  • U7: 2018-2019
  • U9: 2016-2017
  • U11: 2014-2015
  • U13: 2012-2013
  • U15: 2010-2011
  • U18: 2007-2009
  • Adults: 1900-2006

Activities returning for the adult division include:

  • Hardest shot station
  • Accuracy shooting station
  • Accuracy race station
  • Food trucks
  • Barbecue
  • Special Olympics celebrity game
  • Prize for winner
  • Prize for best jersey

Helmets, gloves and shoes are mandatory to participate, and goalies are expected to wear street hockey equipment. Floor ball sticks without a ball pocket are allowed; those with a ball pocket at the toe are not allowed, as the ball cannot come off the ground.

Teams will play a minimum of four games and up to six or seven depending on registration numbers.

Inquiries can be sent to info@battleatthebeach.ca.
