not flashy, but critical

Grant to offset costs of major project at Sylvan Lake pool

Feb 18, 2025 | 1:58 PM

A provincial grant will allow for upgrades to Sylvan Lake’s pool.

Awarded to local swim club, the Sylvan Lake Nauticals, the $307,250 comes from the provincial Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP).

“This is huge news for the NexSource Centre swimming pool. While users may not see flashy, ‘on the surface’ upgrades, this grant will allow us to move forward with a major project that is needed to keep the pool fully operational and provide some much-needed improvements, says Monique Callicott, director of recreation, culture & tourism, town of Sylvan Lake.

“Our partnership with the Nauticals and the hard work of so many people helped to bring these grant dollars to Sylvan Lake. We’re very thankful.”

The grant will cover 50 per cent of the $614,500 project at the NexSource Centre. The project includes:

  • replacing the fiberglass filter tanks of the swimming pool and hot tub
  • mechanical room door modifications
  • removal and disposal of the existing filter tanks
  • new filter tanks, flow meters, pumps, strainers, plumbing and installation

“We’re incredibly excited and fortunate to receive this grant. The NexSource Centre is home to the Nauticals Swim Club and these upgrades will ensure that we can continue to operate for years to come,” says Erdman Klassen, president, Sylvan Lake Nauticals.

“We’re thankful to the Government of Alberta and Minister [Devin] Dreeshen for awarding us this grant and look forward to the upgrades to the NexSource Centre.”

The project is slated to begin in late summer or early fall.
