Lacombe city council passes whistle cessation resolution for Wolf Creek Drive crossing
Lacombe’s city council has passed a resolution declaring the discontinuation of train whistle use at the Wolf Creek Drive rail crossing, located at Leduc Subdivision mile 19.36 in Lacombe, unless an emergency situation arises.
City administration is now working with Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) to end the use of whistles in this area within 30 days of the declaration date, Jan. 27.
In November 2023, Lacombe and CPKC agreed that three of the five railway crossings within the city limits were eligible for whistle cessation, although the Wolf Creek Drive location required pedestrian improvements to be completed before it was officially eligible.
In 2024, the City completed the installation of a pedestrian crossing across Highway 2A and the CPKC rail line, connecting the sidewalk along Woodland Drive to the Len Thompson Fish Pond trail and removing the last barrier to whistle cessation at the crossing.
