RDP athletes of the week: Jan. 24-26

Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Athletics is very proud to announce Eiley Morrison (Queens Indoor Track) and Owen Langberg (Kings Volleyball) as the RDP Athletes of the Week:

Eiley Morrison
Queens Indoor Track
Program – Bachelor of Science in Nursing (first year)
Hometown – Lacombe, Alberta

In only her first Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Indoor Track competition, Lacombe’s Eiley Morrison made an impact. Morrison was instrumental in the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens ranking first at the ACAC Indoor Track Running Room Grand Prix #1 with 67 team points.

The first-year competitor (6.88) tied for first in the women’s 50 m with SAIT’s Amy Fallows, sharing the ACAC record.

The RDP Queens (1:53.15) continued their dominance in the relays, placing first in the 4×200 m. Morrison, Alissa Berwick, Kammy Park and Loami Rautenbach comprised this squad.

Morrison (45.44), a Bachelor of Science in Nursing student, added another four points to the Queens’ total with a fifth place finish in the 300 m.

Morrison and the RDP Indoor Track team will compete at the ACAC Indoor Track Running Room Grand Prix #2 on Saturday, February 15. This event will be held in the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

Owen Langberg
Kings Volleyball
Program – Open Studies (second year)
Hometown – Rocky Mountain House, Alberta

Own Langberg, a six-foot-six middle, played a key role in helping the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Volleyball team earn a pair of hard-fought victories in Medicine Hat. On Friday, the talented student-athlete recorded five kills, five blocks and two service aces in the Kings’ four set win over the Rattlers (21-25, 25-15, 25-22 and 25-23). Langberg led the Kings with a +9 rating.

Then on Saturday, Rocky Mountain House’s Langberg (Open Studies) accumulated five kills, five blocks, two aces and a pair of huge digs for the Kings. The RDP Kings earned another victory over Medicine Hat College in four sets (19-25, 25-23, 25-10 and 25-16). He finished with an impressive +11 rating. For his outstanding play, Langberg was named the Kings Player of the Game.

In only his second year, Langberg has established himself as one of the top middles in ACAC Men’s Volleyball.

This weekend, Langberg and the Kings will play the SAIT Trojans.
