July 2024 Incident

Man sentenced in stolen vehicle seizure

Jan 29, 2025 | 1:23 PM

It’s six months in jail for a central Alberta man charged with several offences following the seizure of a stolen vehicle last summer.

Isaiah Okeynan, 29, a resident of Maskwacis, was sentenced in Wetaskiwin Court of Justice on Jan. 28, 2025. The sentencing also included an order that all items seized by police be forfeited to the Crown for destruction.

It was on July 22, 2024, when members from the Wetaskiwin RCMP detachment located a Ford F150 which had been reported stolen out of Edmonton.

While officers were covertly following the vehicle and coordinating its safe recovery, they observed Wetaskiwin County peace officers attempting a traffic stop on the stolen truck.

The vehicle then allegedly fled at a high rate of speed.

With assistance from Camrose City Police, Leduc RCMP, and Maskwacis RCMP, police say the vehicle was found abandoned, and a short time later, the suspect was located.

Wetaskiwin RCMP charged Okeynan with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Flight from Police
  • Dangerous Operation of motor vehicle
  • Drive while unauthorized
