Rebels edged by Hitmen on Sunday in Calgary

Twenty-four hours after bringing a lengthy losing skid to an end, the Red Deer Rebels fell 6-1 to the Calgary Hitmen on Sunday evening.

The loss at the Scotiabank Saddledome marked the Rebels third game in as many nights. This comes after the Rebels won their first match in 13 games on Saturday night against Moose Jaw at the Centrium.

The Hitmen outshot their central division rivals 34-18 led offensively by Sawyer mynio, Ben Kindel, and Carter Yakemchuk who all had three point each in the victory.

Forward Samuel Drancak scored the Rebels lone goal and goaltender Chase Wutzke made 28 saves in a solid effort.

The Hitmen scored the lone goal of the opening period on the powerplay. With 12:28 left in the first, defenceman Carter Yakemchuk fired a one-timer blast from the middle of the ice in the offensive end.

In the second period, the Hitmen added to their lead off the stick of Tanner Howe. Right before the Hitmen scored, a scrum near the net resulted in penalties including a five-minute major and a game misconduct for Rebels defenceman Keaton Dowhaniuk.

Later in the frame, the Rebels got on the board on a goal scored by Samuel Drancak assisted by Brett Calhoon.

The Hitmen then scored twice before the end of the period to take a 4-1 lead from Sawyer Mynio on the powerplay and again a little over two minutes later by David Adaszynski.

Calgary added another in the third period scored by Oliver Tulk with over seven minutes left followed by Mynio’s second of the night five minutes later.

Next up for the Rebels, they’ll head to Brandon, Man. to take on the Wheat Kings on Wednesday, Jan. 29. followed by a Friday matchup in Regina against the Pats.
