Feeders Association of Alberta to meet in Red Deer Jan. 30-Feb. 1

Jan 23, 2025 | 12:16 PM

The Feeders Association of Alberta (FAA) is holding its annual convention and annual general meeting in Red Deer at the end of this month.

All 45 local feeder associations, which provide loans for livestock producers, will meet from Jan. 30 to Feb. 1 at Red Deer Resort and Casino.

“By being partners in livestock financing, our associations have helped grow Alberta’s livestock business by making credit more accessible and flexible,” says FAA Executive Director Craig Guthrie.

“Our associations have unique knowledge of the challenges in raising livestock, and also understand local communities. This is one of the core strengths of the program as it brings people in that otherwise might not have access to credit at these terms.”

Going back to 1936, when the FAA’s loan guarantee program was established, the organizations’ assistance has helped producers find the growth in their operations that they so desire.

Last year was one of the largest on record for the FAA, with their loans accounting for 20 per cent of the agriculture lending market provincially.

“We’re looking forward to getting together to discuss future challenges and possibilities, as we face a declining cattle herd,” Guthrie adds. “We invite interested producers to register by January 24 to join in the information sessions.”
