Extreme cold warning issued for Red Deer and surrounding areas

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued an extreme cold warning for the City of Red Deer and surrounding areas.

ECCC says wind chill values of -40 C to -45 C are occurring, but expects the cold event to end this morning.

Residents are advised to cover up, as frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with the wind chill.

Remember, if it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health factors like frost bite or hypothermia, says ECCC.
