New doctor working at Easthill Medical Clinic

Jan 15, 2025 | 1:05 PM

Alberta Health Services (AHS) announced Wednesday a new family doctor has began practising in Red Deer.

Dr. Ibrahim Ogunbi, who got his medical education at the University of Lagos, Nigeria, is working out of Easthill Medical Clinic in Red Deer. He practiced for more than 15 years before coming to Canada.

Those looking for a family doctor can call 403-343-0115 to arrange a meet-and-greet appointment. He will also be providing hospitalist services at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.

“I am elated to be in Red Deer,” said Dr. Ogunbi in a media release. “I find the city residents to be very accommodating and endearing, and I am glad to be contributing to the overall well-being of the people of the community.”

In total, six physicians are now serving Red Deer at the Easthill Medical Clinic and AHS says they’re continuing to recruit physicians to Central Alberta.

“Family doctors are vital to the health of Alberta families and communities,” said Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Health and MLA for Red Deer-North. “Dr. Ogunbi and his family are a welcome addition to Red Deer, and he is sure to be a great asset to our community.”

AHS has dedicated staff called physician resource planners who work to identify and pursue international and domestic physician recruitment.

They work with organizations and community partners such as the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician recruitment and retention committees.

“Red Deer is the third largest city in the best province in Canada,” added Jason Stephan, MLA for Red Deer-South. “It is good to see medical professionals coming to Red Deer to serve families and individuals in our wonderful community.”

Alberta Health Services provides a range of health care services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta.
