Stettler emergency department fills some gaps, but still facing repeated closures this week

Jan 13, 2025 | 4:23 PM

The emergency room in Stettler will experience repeated closures this week, but some gaps have been filled, according to Alberta Health Services.

Overnight coverage gaps on Jan. 16 and 18 have been resolved, and a 24-hour coverage gap beginning the evening of Jan. 19 has also been reduced.

The ED will continue to be temporarily closed:

  • Jan. 13 at 5 p.m. to Jan. 14 at 8 a.m.
  • Jan. 14 at 5 p.m. to Jan. 15 at 8 a.m.
  • Jan. 15 at 5 p.m. to Jan. 16 at 8 a.m.
  • Jan. 19 at 5 p.m. to Jan. 20 at 8 a.m.
  • Jan. 20 at 5 p.m. to Jan. 21 at 8 a.m.

In the event that physician coverage is secured for any other identified gaps, ED service will be restored, and the community will be notified.

AHS adds that during times when the department is closed, nursing staff remain in the department, providing assistance in redirecting/referring patients to alternate emergency departments in neighbouring communities, or other appropriate levels of service.
