Rebels add Russian forward Gleb Semenov

After a busy trade deadline on Thursday, the Red Deer Rebels added one more player to round out the roster for the rest of the season.

On Friday morning the club announced they’ve signed import forward Gleb Semenov from Moscow, Russia.

The soon to be 18-year-old was picked up by Red Deer after he cleared Ontario Hockey League (OHL) waivers.

Semenov was selected by the London Knights in the second round, 118th overall in the 2024 OHL Import Draft.

Last year he split time with both U17/ U18 Spartak Moscow where he recorded 21 goals and 42 points in 29 games. This year he played 11 games with the Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League, where he’s recorded one goal and one assist.

He joins Czechia’s Samuel Drancak as the two import players for the Rebels. Forward Kasper Pikkarainen from Finland remains on injured reserve and will not play the rest of the year for Red Deer after only suiting up for one game.

Whether Pikkarainen will be on the roster or not to begin next season is a decision owner and general manager Brent Sutter will have to make in the offseason.

“I’ll have to have some discussions on that with the league but also with his agency,” he said.
