The Red Deer Rebels completed a three-way deal on trade deadline day that sent 20-year-old defenceman Hunter Mayo and 18-year-old forward Trae Wilke to a new team.

The deal, which involved the Swift Current Broncos and Moose Jaw Warriors, had multiple pieces swapped between the trio. Both Wilke and Mayo were sent to the Broncos.

As a result, the Rebels received 17-year-old forward Ty Coupland from Swift, 20-year-old defenceman Keaton Dowhaniuk from Moose Jaw, and a fourth round selection in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft from Swift.

Red Deer also parted ways with a sixth round selection in 2026 and a fourth round pick in 2027, both of which went to the Warriors.

Coupland, who’s from North, Vancouver, is in his second season with the Broncos after he was drafted by the club in round two, 42nd overall in the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft.

He has nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points in 32 games this season. Last year he had 31 points in 61 games.

Dowhaniuk has suited up for both the Prince George Cougars and Moose Jaw Warriors for 246 regular season games. This season he has four points in 19 games. The Sherwood Park, Alta. product was selected third overall by the Prince George Cougars in round one of the 2019 WHL Prospects Draft.

Meanwhile, Mayo leaves the Rebels after playing 224 regular season games with the club. Over that time he compiled 42 goals and 74 assists for 116 points. He also had 13 points in 31 playoff games.

Wilke was in his first season with the Rebels after being acquired from Lethbridge over the summer. In 38 games this season, the Saskatoon, Sask. native has eight goals and 11 assists for 19 points.
