The Red Deer Rush U19A squad captured the gold medal at the 40th annual Red Deer Ringette Friends on Ice Tournament over the weekend.

They defeated Calgary Northwest Ringette 7-5 on Sunday wrapping up the weekend with a 3-1 record.

Kylie Maris, Ally George, and Hadley Guenther all found the back of the net for the Rush but Blaire Campbell and Arwynn Abbott both scored twice in the victory.

Campbell finished the three-day tournament third in the scoring race with eight goals and two assists for 10 points in four games. Guenther was close behind with seven points followed by Abbott and Koda Edwards with six points.

Red Deer’s only loss of the tournament came against Calgary when they lost 6-4 during round-robin play on Saturday.

In addition, Red Deer’s U10 Step 3 and U14B teams each came away with a silver medal.

From Jan. 3 – 5, the organization welcomed over 65 teams from across Alberta to Red Deer.

The tournament, which was free to attend, featured multiple ages and skill levels at the Kinsmen, Dawe and Collicutt Centre arenas. They also held a free try it event which allowed kids the opportunity to learn more about the sport of ringette.
