The Red Deer Rebels made their second trade in five days on Saturday afternoon moving on from forward Carson Birnie.

They traded the 19-year-old from Arcola, Sask. to the Calgary Hitmen in exchange for two players and a pair of draft picks.

The Rebels received 17-year-old forward Parker MacDougall, 16-year-old forward prospect Ethan Dundas, a fifth round pick in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft, and a third round selection in the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft, which originally belonged to Swift Current.

MacDougall, who has 42 points in 19 games with the U18 AAA Fraser Valley Thunderbirds this season, was selected by the Hitmen 99th overall in round five of the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft.

The Victoria, B.C. product stands at 5’11” tall and 174 pounds. He’s set to join the Rebels this weekend ahead of their game against the Saskatoon Blades on Tuesday in Red Deer.

Dundas has suited up for his hometown U18 AAA Regina Pat Canadians where he’s notched eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points in 25 games. Standing at 5’11” and 172 pounds, he was taken by the Hitmen 133rd overall in the seventh round at the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft

Meanwhile, Birnie played 150 career games with the Rebels and scored 31 goals and 29 assists for 60 points. He also played in 21 playoff games where he added eight points.

The Rebels also recently traded defenceman Matteo Fabrizi on New Year’s Eve to the Prince Albert Raiders in exchange for 18-year-old defenceman Doogan Pederson, 15-year-old forward Miller Robson, and a third-round pick in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft, which also originally belonged to Swift Current.

The Rebels may not be done quite yet as the WHL trade deadline is right around the corner on Thursday, Jan. 9.
