Question of the Year!

One of the highlights of my holidays was a Day with my 6½-year-old grandson, Noah.
We got all dressed up fancy-schmancy, attended an interactive play, savored peppermint hot cocoa Blizzards (oh so heavenly!), and created our own “paint ” masterpieces. You cannot wrap up that kind of joy in paper.
The play was magical – a melodrama-style Cinderella story that transformed into wonderful interaction. While we didn’t get to throw popcorn, we booed, cheered, and sang our hearts out! The best part? Shouting obvious warnings to characters who ‘couldn’t see’ what was right in front of them. It was a hoot!
This experience sparked a profound thought: if my life were a play or movie, what would the audience be shouting at me? What obvious things am I missing? What actions would they desperately hope I’d take (or avoid)?
The answer came to me with crystal clarity. They would be screaming:
“Don’t engage!”
Don’t engage with people who upset you.
Don’t engage with people who don’t have your best interests at heart.
Don’t engage with people who hurt you.
Don’t engage with people who don’t (or can’t) support you.
I heard them but, man, this is hard for me. I’ve always tried to “nice” my way through situations, optimistically assuming things will improve.
I keep engaging, hoping common sense (or my way of thinking) will finally bubble up – though sometimes(often?) it never does.
In 2025, I’m going to choose disengagement as a viable option, because I believe (for me) the audience is right.
Now…your life, your version, your plan…
Pretend your life is a movie or a play; you are the star. The audience is watching, captivated, they know what you should do (or not do) next, but they are not convinced that you know.
So they are screaming it out to you! Can you hear them?
What are they screaming?
Do you agree?
Are you willing to consider it?
How would 2025 be better if you decided to heed their advice?
Whatever they’re shouting, take a moment to reflect. This is your movie, your play, your life.
You’ve got the power to decide what happens next.
Cheers to a bright, bold, and beautiful New Year ahead! Steph
