RCMP reports third vehicle broke through Sylvan Lake ice
Sylvan Lake RCMP have reported a third incident of a vehicle breaking through the ice at Sylvan Lake in recent days.
This comes after police issued a warning on Saturday following two vehicles breaking through the ice and submerging into the lake. Those incidents sparked the RCMP to warn the public to stay off the ice with motor vehicles.
The third incident happened on Monday and no injuries were reported. However, RCMP are reminding the public to use caution and to be prepared when on the ice.
“Sylvan Lake is a popular destination for ice fishing, snowmobiling, ATV and UTV riding, skating, and other outdoor activities,” said Staff Sergeant Jay Peden in a media release. “Please keep in mind that Sylvan Lake is a spring-fed body of water, which can cause ice thickness to vary from one area to another. If you are unsure whether the ice is safe, please err on the side of caution.”
