UPDATE: RCMP lift shelter in place for isolated area within County of Wetaskiwin

RCMP have lifted the shelter place for an area of the County of Wetaskiwin southeast of Maskwacis around Township 441.

Mounties say, however, a police presence will remain in the area, while the investigation continues.

Police say a release with additional details is anticipated.

Wetaskiwin RCMP are advising residents along Township Road 441 between Range Road 224 and 822 in the County of Wetaskiwin, southeast of Maskwacis, to shelter in place.

RCMP are responding to an unfolding event where they say the subject involved is believed to be in possession of firearms.

Residents of the area are asked to remain indoors, lock their residences and stay away from windows while officers respond.

Mounties say there are a significant number of resources focused on responding to this unfolding event and protecting the public.

Residents are asked to please refrain from posting photos of responding officers on social media or those stationary in this vicinity.
