Local athletes selected to play in Football Alberta Senior Bowl

Football Alberta announced the final rosters for the upcoming 34th annual Football Alberta Senior Bowl and five central Albertans made the cut.

The game between the top high school football players in the province split into North and South teams will take place on Jan. 5 in Calgary at the Shouldice Encana Dome.

As a result of tryouts held last weekend in Edmonton, four athletes from Red Deer and one from Sylvan Lake were selected to represent Team North.

Those headed to the Senior Bowl include Notre Dame Cougars running back Thomas Barrett, H.J. Cody Lakers quarterback Jace Martins, Hunting Hills Lightning specialist Jaxon Sharp, and Lindsay Thurber Raiders defensive backs Damien Bertram and Brian Robinson.

Practices will take place from Jan. 2 to 4 ahead of the big game. Last year, Team South defeated Team Alberta 32-2.
