Red Deer Titans want YOU for their winter training camp

Dec 18, 2024 | 1:34 PM

It’s just about time for another year of rugby with the Red Deer Titans.

The organization is appealing to prospective players, both for junior and senior leagues, to join them when winter camps begin Jan. 8.

The camps take place indoors, once a week at the Collicutt Centre, and run through March. Youth divisions include U9 and U13, and everything during camps is played with flag rules, not tackle.

Jula Lewis, Titans club administrator, explains that teams are part of the Calgary Rugby Union, and often travel their for games. Some others are played at the Titans’ facility just off Highway 2A, south of Gasoline Alley.

“This is the ultimate team sport. It was originally a sport to help men get ready for war. It bonds you like no other,” says Lewis.

“Rugby is tough with males because if they want to play a contact sport, they usually go to football or hockey. We’d love to see more youth girls though because they have limited access to contact sport. I love when we find those people who just havent been able to enjoy a sport because it’s not the type of contact or athletic endeavour that they want.”
