Medicine Lodge Ski Hill gets provincial grant for t-bar upgrades
The Medicine Lodge Ski Hill, a non-profit, volunteer-run ski hill near Bentley, has been awarded $213,718 from the Government of Alberta to upgrade its Samson T-Bar, the main lift on the hill.
The money was awarded through the Active Communities Initiative, which was launched earlier this year. The first round of funding committed $4.2 million to support the creation and revitalization of 12 facilities in communities across the province.
“The Active Communities Initiative is our commitment to ensuring Albertans have access to up-to-date sport and recreation infrastructure to remain healthy, vibrant and actively engaged in the sports they love,” commented minister of tourism and sport Joseph Schow. “Through this Initiative, we’re building healthier families and more resilient communities by helping create and improve spaces so that more Albertans can be more active more often.”
The Active Communities Initiative is described as Alberta’s first grant program solely dedicated to funding sport and recreation infrastructure. Applications are open to eligible community groups, non-profit organizations and societies, including First Nations and Métis settlements that want to build or enhance active spaces in their communities.
