Town of Sylvan Lake approves 2025 capital budget, asking for public feedback on operating budget

Dec 11, 2024 | 3:20 PM

Town of Sylvan Lake council has approved the 2025 capital budget, 5-year capital plan, and 2025 interim operating budget.

The 2025 capital budget was approved at $17,000,000 followed by the five-year plan in 2025 (17,000,000), 2026 (18,815,300), 2027 (13,880,000), 2028 (13,050,000), and 2029 (5,845,000).

In 2025, over $3.3 million will go towards transportation services and core infrastructure, $250,000 for equipment, and $10.5 million to utility and waste services.

The Municipal Government Act requires each municipality to set an operating budget before the new year but because council did not set it in time, they approved an interim operating budget for operating expenses.

The final operating budget will be considered by town council on March 24, 2025.

Before then, the Town of Sylvan Lake will host a public open house session for the proposed 2025 Operating Budget on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025, at the NexSource Centre from 4 to 7 p.m.

A 3.38 per cent tax rate increase has been proposed for the 2025 fiscal year.

The proposed 2025 Operating Budget will be posted on the town’s website, sylvanlake.ca/budget with a hard copy available to the public. The town says a reader friendly budget booklet document will be published including an online feedback form.
