Sylvan Lake resident goes viral after riding steer through Tim Hortons drive-thru

A Central Alberta woman turned plenty of heads last Saturday after she was seen riding her holstein steer through the streets of Sylvan Lake.

Kelly Landry, who is originally from Quebec, moved to Sylvan Lake in April with her steer named Magnum.

The duo have created quite a following on social media, more specifically on Tik Tok where she has over 365,000 likes and over 19,000 followers.

In her most recent, post which gained over 250,000 likes, Landry can be seen riding Magnum through a Tim Hortons drive-thru and up to the order window where a surprised employee was filming the steer.

Landry ultimately had to tie Magnum up to a pole outside the local business to retrieve her order. Despite that, it created plenty of buzz around the community.

“People were surprised, they took some pictures with him, and we had a long chat. People usually have a lot of questions,” she said.

Landry has owned Magnum for eight years and originally bought at one week old for meat. However, over the course of time, the steer has become much more than that.

A couple of months after purchasing Magnum, she decided to train him. After plenty of time saddle training, riding the steer became an often occurence. In her hometown in Quebec, she would ride Magnum in parades and around the community.

Since moving to Sylvan she’s rode the steer through town a couple of times including outside the Canadian Tire and plenty of other local businesses.

“I was a dairy farmer and rode horses since I was two years old. When I worked on the farm I would just get up on cows,” she said. “My boss was not happy and thought it would be crazy to do that. So, I did it with mine.”
