Scotia Wealth makes $12,000 donation to Alzheimer Society

The Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories received a substantial donation on Friday from a Red Deer division of Scotia McLeod.

A donation of $12,000 from Scotia Wealth Management will help the organization make a meaningful impact in the lives of those living with Alzheimer’s and dementias.

“The $12,000 donation will directly support the Alzheimer Society’s critical programs, including educational initiatives, caregiver support services, and research funding. These programs provide essential resources to families and individuals facing the challenges of dementia, helping them navigate this journey with care and dignity,” says Kevin Stevens, local wealth advisor.

“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has made this donation possible and are excited to see the positive impact it will have on those in need. Together, we can continue to support the Alzheimer Society in its vital work and contribute to a future where fewer families are impacted by Alzheimer’s and dementia.”

Stevens noted this donation builds upon a $16,800 contribution they made to the Alzheimer’s Society through their annual Alzheimer’s Faceoff event in Edmonton.

According to Annmarie Senhouse, with the society’s client service team, 1,687 unique individuals in the Red Deer region were served by her organization in 2023, with numbers always increasing year-over-year.

“We are grateful to have Scotia Wealth Management as a partner in the community,” she says.

“It is due, in part, to their generosity that we can continue to provide ‘Help for Today’ through free education programs and support services for individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.”

According to the provincial/territorial branch of the Alzheimer Society, care partners in Alberta are spending in excess of 40 million unpaid hours each year caring for individuals living with dementia.

They also say that one-in-three Albertans are directly affected by dementia, and they project a 286 per cent increase in diagnoses by 2050.
