Salvation Army asking public to donate in alternative ways

Dec 6, 2024 | 11:33 AM

The Salvation Army says the Canada Post strike is affecting their donations this holiday season.

Just ahead of their busiest time of the year, they’re asking the public to donate in different ways such as giving online at salvationarmy.ca/christmashelp.

The public can also donate over the phone by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY or in person at any of their kettle locations, which offer tap options.

“People give in a variety of ways. Many still prefer to get traditional fundraising requests by mail, and the response to that method is significant to our overall fundraising efforts,” said Lt-Colonel John Murray, Territorial Secretary for Communications, in a media release.

“With no strike resolution in sight, we are deeply concerned about the impact this may have on our ability to support those most vulnerable.”

A recent survey by The Salvation Army revealed that it’s a difficult time for many Canadians as 58 per cent of residents compared to 43 per cent last year are heading to local food banks for the first time.

“Donations help provide meals, shelter, and vital services to vulnerable individuals and families during the holidays, a time when many are facing difficult choices between basic needs,” Lt-Colonel Murray added.

“We thank Canadians for their generosity and commitment to making a difference in their communities.”
