Sylvan Lake to kick off holiday season with Light up the Lake

The Town of Sylvan Lake invites the community to take part in Light up the Lake, where it will turn on the Christmas lights for its Winter Village.

The light up takes place Friday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. and kicks off a weekend full of holiday activities.

On Saturday, Dec. 7, there will be a Breakfast with Santa at the NexSource Centre (4823 49 Avenue) with seatings available at 8:30 a.m., 9:55 a.m., and 11:20 a.m. Pre-registration is required and tickets are $8 per person. Families are encouraged to bring their own cameras to snap photos with Santa, after enjoying their pancakes.

Next, families can head to Santa’s Workshop for crafts, activities and more. The workshop will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

After pancakes, Mr. Claus will be getting ready for the Santa Claus Parade that will be rolling out at 5 p.m. The parade begins at 47 Avenue and 44 Street, will head west on 47 Avenue, north on 50 Street, east on Lakeshore Drive and then end at Lakeshore Drive and 44 Street. Remember to bring a bag to catch some holiday candies!

Following the parade, there will be a fireworks display at approximately 6:30 p.m. Town officials say attendees can watch the display from anywhere on Lakeshore Drive. To facilitate the set up of the show, the pier will be closed throughout the day Saturday and during the display.

On Sunday, Dec. 8, there will be a second opportunity to have Breakfast with Santa in the same location. Just as with Saturday, seating times will be the same and pre-registration is required.

Santa’s Workshop will also reopen from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
