RDP launches Network Administration Diploma program to grow credit programming

In an effort to continue to increase opportunities for students in the IT sector, Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) is launching a new two-year Network Administration Diploma credit program.

Applications are open now for fall 2025.

“We are excited to offer the Network Administration Diploma credit program which provides a strong foundation for graduates to pursue a growing number of careers in information technology,” says Dr. Robbie Halonen, Dean, Donald School of Business, Science and Computing. “At RDP, we offer enhanced education, training and applied research opportunities that help to fulfill Alberta’s labour market demand.”

The program is designed to provide students with knowledge, skills and hands-on experiences that align with industry standards and certifications. Officials say students will leverage curiosity, logical thinking and their affinity for technology to learn how to maintain a resilient and high-quality network by planning and enhancing network capacity.

“While students receive robust experiences throughout the Network Administration Diploma program, they can effectively build on this credential if they decide to further their post-secondary education,” adds Dr. Halonen. “As part of credit programming, students receive enhanced work-integrated learning experiences and have increased access to student scholarships.”

The program has two work-integrated learning components with industry partners that complement 16 courses, including IT Systems, Intro to Programming and Network Management.

RDP also offers s the Network Administration Diploma: Co-op Specialization, which provides learners with the opportunity to foster industry connections and apply knowledge through paid, structured work experience.

Graduates of the new diploma program will be expected to be able to install, monitor, troubleshoot and upgrade network infrastructure, including both hardware and software components. They should also be able to incorporate optimization techniques to improve utilization and efficiency, as well as to apply security measures to prevent and monitor security breaches.

Upon completion, graduates should be qualified to enter a variety of in-demand careers including IT technician, network administrator, network engineer, and network support personnel.

This diploma program has moved from RDP’s Continuing Education and Corporate Training to the Donald School of Business, Science and Computing.
