Red Deer resident Sandra H. is over $1 million richer after winning on a Western Max ticket.

According to the Western Canada Lottery Corporation, she plans to spoil her grandkids after winning $1,000,010 on a ticket she purchased from Shoppers Drug Mart at 2A 6315 Horn Street in Red Deer.

She won her prize by correctly matching the selection for one of the million-dollar bonus prizes in the October 8 draw: 7, 14, 19, 23, 34, 41, 48. She also won $10 by correctly matching three of the seven numbers plus the bonus number in the main draw: 5, 12, 16, 18, 23, 38, 39, and the Bonus, 8.

After checking the WCLC website, Sandra noticed someone from Alberta had won, and after checking her own ticket on the Lotto Spot app, she couldn’t believe it.

The first person she called was her brother.

“I checked it about ten times,” she said. “I just couldn’t believe it… and to win $10 on the same ticket was a surprise.

“He thought I was bull********. I still don’t quite believe it myself.”

Sandra has worked at a homeless shelter for 18 years and isn’t ready to give it up quite yet. In addition to spoiling her family, she also plans to pay off her mortgage.

“I just had a great-grandson, so we’re busy. I’d love to take a trip to Vancouver Island in the spring as well.”
