Nov 27, 2024 | 8:54 AM

Update (4 p.m.): Olds RCMP says the collision involving a semi on the QEII Highway south of Bowden earlier today has been cleared.

Police responded to the collision at 7:34 a.m. after receiving a report of a collision involving a semi tractor trailer unit.

The investigation unveiled that the semi had initially flipped on its side blocking all southbound lanes.

Police say a good samaritan was helping the semi driver when a Ford F350 pulling a cattle driver collided with the semi, causing injuries to the semi driver, good samaritan, and the two occupants of the Ford.  They were taken to hospital with minor injuries and are expected to recover.

In addition, there were three cows in the cattle trailer and one was killed as a result of this incident.

Police stayed on scene for many hours investigating and assisting with clearing all debris and vehicles. The highway is now reopened and normal traffic has resumed.

Update (2:35 p.m.): According to 511 Alberta, a southbound lane has been reopened, although motorists are asked to keep left and expect major delays while traffic volume clears.

As of 8:18 a.m. Wednesday morning, Olds RCMP are attending a collision which involved a semi on the QEII Highway south of Bowden.

Police say southbound traffic on the QEII is being redirected and an update will be provided once the scene is clear.
