The ALERT Integrated Gang Enforcement Team has arrested a member of the Hells Angels Alberta Nomads, 55-year-old Owen Czech, after he was allegedly found possessing a handgun.

Czech was arrested Nov. 13, 2024, in Red Deer after the ALERT team interrupted an assault he and two other support club members were allegedly committing. Police report that he attempted to conceal the firearm in a vehicle when stopped by police.

“Despite their best efforts to portray themselves as nothing more than motorcycle enthusiasts, the Hells Angels routinely find themselves involved in criminal activity and are a threatening presence in our communities,” said Insp. Angela Kemp, ALERT.

The ALERT team reports that Czech is a self-identified member of the Hells Angels and was under conditions not to possess firearms.

He has been charged with:

  • Assault
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Failing to comply with a release order

Czech remains in custody and is scheduled to speak to bail on Nov. 27, 2024.

ALERT asks members of the public who suspect drug or gang activity in their community to call local police or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
