Ponoka waste transfer station earns award

Nov 24, 2024 | 1:00 PM

Ponoka’s waste transfer station is award-winning.

The facility was recently named winner of the Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA) 2024 Collection Site Award of Excellence.

This was presented at the Alberta CARE Recycling Conference in Bonnyville.

“This is a well-deserved award for our team at the town’s waste transfer station,” said town CAO Sandra Lund.

“The town is committed to operational and service excellence, which includes our waste management practices where much of the focus is on reducing the amount of waste that is sent to landfills. We do this through our curbside waste collection program that includes the collection of recyclable and compostable waste, as well as through numerous programs that are offered free year-round at our waste transfer station.”

This includes the Used Oil Collection Program, the Household Hazardous Waste Program, and the E-Waste Electronics Recycling Program.

Since 2008, Alberta Recycling has annually recognized municipal collection sites that display excellence in the following:

• Management of their electronics, paint, tire, and/or used oil materials collection sites;
• Meeting all program requirements; and
• Making recycling convenient and safe for residents.

The Town of Ponoka Waste Transfer Station is located northeast of the corporate limits on 46 Street in Ponoka County on Township Road 431A.
