Workshop coming to Red Deer for cow-calf producers on data literacy

The University of Calgary’s School of Public Policy is putting on a workshop in Red Deer for cow-calf producers.

On Nov. 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hampton Inn & Suites Red Deer, those in attendance at the free event will learn about the digitization of records for cow and calf producers and how data can lead to better decision making.

The registration for the workshop is already full but for those interested in being placed on a waitlist, email julius.rondilla@ucalgary.ca.

The Simpson Centre for Food and Agricultural Policy at the University of Calgary’s School of Public Policy coordinated the program’s design and delivery of the event.

The data literacy program is put on through a partnership with Olds College, Lakeland College, EMILI, Agri-Food Management Excellence, RDAR, and the Canadian Cattle Identification Agency.

Those registered will learn from speakers such as:

  • Dan Lussier – Director, Canadian Agri-Food Data Initiative, EMILI
  • Susan Markus – Livestock Research Scientist at RDAR, and Research Scientist in Livestock & Agricultural Technology at Lakeland College
  • Sean Thompson – Director, Technology Access Centre for Livestock Production, Olds College of Agriculture & Technology
  • Larry Martin – Principal, Agri-Food Management Excellence Inc.
  • Dr. Claire Windeyer – Associate Professor, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Calgary
  • Brian Perillat – Agribusiness Specialist, More than Just Feed Inc.
  • Abby-Ann Redman – Ruminant Nutritionist, Blue Rock Animal Nutrition
  • Dr. Colin Nicholas – Owner, Nomad Veterinary Services
