This Week in RDP Athletics: Nov. 22-24

This week, the Red Deer Polytechnic Curling team will begin the new season. The RDP Queens Hockey team will host the Medicine Hat College Rattlers in a pair of games. The Kings Hockey team will face the Briercrest College Clippers twice in Saskatchewan.

Both RDP Basketball squads will play The King’s University Eagles and Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves at home. The Kings and Queens Volleyball teams will challenge the Eagles and Wolves on the road.

Here is a summary of the upcoming competition:

Curling | Fall Regional | Rose City Curling Club | November 22-24

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings, Queens and Mixed Curling teams will begin the 2024/2025 campaign in Camrose.

With a veteran team of 12 returning student-athletes and only one first-year, Brad Hamilton, RDP Curling Head Coach, can rely on the Kings and Queens to support one another as they strive for excellence in the classroom, during training and competition, and as ambassadors in communities.

Hockey

Queens vs Rattlers | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Fri., Nov. 22 | 7 p.m.

The third place RDP Queens Hockey team (5W-4L-1 OTL) will face-off against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (1W-6L-1 OTL) at home. Tora Ward (2.51) and Izzy Palumbo (2.68), RDP Queens goaltenders, rank fourth and fifth respectively in goals against average in ACAC Women’s Hockey.

Queens vs Rattlers | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Sat., Nov. 23 | 1 p.m.

The Queens will wrap up their two-game homestand against the Rattlers in an afternoon tilt.

Kings at Briercrest College | Friday, November 22 | 6 p.m.

The third seed Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Hockey team (5W-2L-1 OTL) will challenge the second place Briercrest College Clippers (6W-2L- 0 OTL) in Saskatchewan.

The Kings have the most potent offence in the league, averaging 4.38 goals per game.

Kings at Briercrest College | Saturday, November 23 | 1 p.m.

The Kings will compete against the Clippers.

Basketball

RDP Queens vs Eagles | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Fri., Nov. 22 | 6 p.m.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Basketball team (4-1) will host The King’s University Eagles (4-2). Both the Queens and Eagles are second in their respective divisions.

Lacombe’s Mia Cunningham, a second-year Queens’ guard, ranks second in ACAC Women’s Basketball, sinking 45.5 per cent of her three-point attempts.

Queens vs Wolves | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Sat., Nov. 23 | 1 p.m.

The RDP Queens (4-1) will tip-off against the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves (0-4) at home.

As a group, the Queens have successfully connected on 65.5 per cent of their free-throws.

Kings vs Eagles | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Fri., Nov. 22 | 8 p.m.

The Kings Basketball team (3-2) will compete against the Eagles (1-5) in Red Deer. Jose Mauro leads the league with 14.7 rebounds per game.

Kings vs Wolves | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Sat., Nov. 23 | 3 p.m.

The RDP Kings (3-2) will play the Wolves (0-4) at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre. The Kings have averaged 86.4 points per game.

Volleyball

Queens at King’s University | Friday, November 22 | 6 p.m.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Volleyball team (3-2) will play The King’s University Eagles (5-1) in Edmonton.

In 20 sets, libero Francesca Sandini has accumulated 69 digs and 14 assists.

RDP Queens at Northwestern Polytechnic | Saturday, November 23 | 4 p.m.

The Queens (3-2) will challenge the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves (3-1) in Grande Prairie.

RDP Kings at King’s University | Friday, November 22 | 8 p.m.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Volleyball team (5-0) will compete against The King’s University Eagles (2- 4) on the road. Kings’ outsider hitter Colby Nemeth continues to lead ACAC Men’s Volleyball with 5.00 kills per set.

Kings at Northwestern Polytechnic | Saturday, November 23 | 6 p.m.

The Kings (5-0) will face the Wolves (0-4).
