Red Deer sees 93 per cent increase in housing construction in 2024
Alberta has continued its success this month in increasing housing supply in the province.
New monthly data from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation reinforces that but the government also acknowledges the need for more housing options as the population continues to grow.
The data shows that province-wide, there was an overall 34 per cent increase in houses being built from January to October 2024 compared to the same time frame in 2023. The province has built 37,971 homes compared to 28,313 last year at this time.
The City of Red Deer saw a 93 per cent increase with 327 new homes from the 169 in 2023. In addition, Lethbridge had 624 compared to the 202 last year, which is a 209 per cent increase.
