RDP Athletics weekend recap: Nov. 15-17

This past week, the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Basketball team defeated the Concordia University Thunder at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre. The Kings Basketball team dropped a close decision to the Thunder. The RDP Queens Hockey team was downed by the Lakeland College Rustlers on the road. Both RDP Volleyball squads defeated the Thunder in Edmonton.

Basketball

RDP Queens vs Thunder | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Friday, November 15

The second place Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Basketball team (4-1) defeated the Concordia University Thunder (1-5) by three points (63-60). Sherwood Park’s Salome Nuako and Red Deer’s Jorgia Hicks led the way with 12 points each for the Queens.

Kings vs Thunder | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Friday, November 15

The RDP Kings (3-2) dropped a 79-74 decision to the Thunder (3-3) at home. Jose Mauro (Business Certificate) recorded a double-double (17 points and 15 rebounds) for the Polytechnic.

Hockey

Queens at Lakeland College | Friday, November 15

The third seed RDP Queens Hockey team (5W-4L- 1 OTL) was downed 3-1 by the first place Lakeland College Rustlers (10-0). Kaedence Mollin (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) scored the Queens’ lone goal on the power play.

Volleyball

Queens at Concordia University | Friday, November 15

The second place Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Volleyball team (3-2) defeated the Concordia University Thunder (0-5) in four sets (25-15, 25-10, 20-25 and 25-16). Queens’ setter Maria Brouwer contributed 29 assists, three digs, three kills, two blocks and two service aces.

Kings at Concordia University | Friday, November 15

The undefeated RDP Kings (5-0) earned a victory over the Thunder (0-5) in three sets (25-14, 25-18 and 25- 12). Zach Neufeld (Business Administration – General Management) powered the Kings’ offence with 10 kills.
