Central Alberta business owners sought for growth initiative

Nov 15, 2024 | 1:59 PM

Businesses in the Red Deer region are wanted for a new growth initiative called BREWD — or Business Retention Expansion and Workforce Development.

BREWD is driven by a coalition of businesses, governments and service agencies calling themselves Central Alberta First, according to a news release from the Town of Innisfail.

The goal is give business owners and entrepreneurs an avenue to share perspectives, voice concerns, and contribute ideas which will help shape the region’s future.

“BREWD is phase one of a broader strategy called the Next Generation Economy Initiative,” said Sandra Blyth, Economic Development Manager for Invest Olds and the Town of Olds.

“It’s really important that business owners have the chance to be heard and play a meaningful role in shaping how we grow our economy. Your input is essential in making sure that the decisions we make and the plans we develop reflect the realities you experience every day in your businesses.”

Municipalities a part of BREWD include Olds, Innisfail, Penhold, the city of Red Deer, Red Deer County, Kneehill County and Mountain View County. Other agencies include Red Deer Polytechnic and Olds College as well as Care for Newcomers and the Career Assistance Network.

Participating business owners will contribute to discussions about key topics such as workforce development, rising operational costs, accessing capital, emerging market trends, and more.

“This is a chance to create solutions that reflect the unique needs of central Alberta,” said Penhold Mayor Mike Yargeau. “By bringing together perspectives from across the region, we can develop a practical plan that helps businesses of all sizes grow and succeed.”

Organizers say whether you run a small shop or manage a larger enterprise, your input matters, with the ultimate goal being to present diverse perspectives and the needs of the entire region.
