Sylvan Lake completes Rotenone application to deal with nuisance goldfish

Nov 12, 2024 | 10:05 AM

The Town of Sylvan Lake says it has completed application of Rotenone to the Lakeway Landing storm pond.

This action was necessary to deal with goldfish infestation problem, something rdnewsNOW reported on this past October.

The town says its last test showed the Rotenone concentration was below the detectable limit, adding that Alberta Environment and Protected Areas has given the go-ahead to open the flow of pond water into the stormwater system.

The next couple days will see officials removing fencing and plugs, and there may be heavy equipment in the area.

Repairs to any minor rutting caused by the equipment will be done in the spring.

Additionally, the town says new signage will go up to remind residents about abandoning pets.
