A trial date has been set for a young Red Deer man facing charges after an alleged assault with a weapon incident earlier this year.

Austin Dampier, 18, is scheduled for trial in Red Deer Court of Justice on April 8, 2025.

It was on May 9, 2024, when Red Deer RCMP responded to a 911 call reporting a robbery with a knife.

At approximately 11:25 a.m., Red Deer RCMP received the call which stated a male suspect had a knife and had threatened another person in the area of Riverside Drive. RCMP responded immediately, however, the suspect had fled the scene and ran into a wooden area.

Police Officers from General Duty, Traffic Section, Downtown Patrol Unit (DPU), and Police Dog Services (PDS) searched the area for the suspect. Red Deer RCMP were also able to utilize Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), commonly known as a drone, to assist in locating the suspect.

Austin Dampier, an 18-year-old resident of Red Deer, was charged with the following offences:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Assault while choking
  • Uttering threats

Following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Dampier was released by a Justice for the court on a Release Order.
