Innisfail RCMP respond to cattle hauler rollover

A dozen cattle are dead following a truck rollover near Innisfail Thursday.

On November 7 at 12:11 p.m., Innisfail RCMP and Innisfail Fire and Rescue responded to a loaded cattle truck that rolled over on Highway 590.

RCMP report the truck was travelling west on the Highway 590 overpass and failed to navigate the south turn onto the QEII.

Mounties say the truck rolled with 75 cattle (calves) trapped in the trailer.

Innisfail Fire and Rescue, Red Deer County Fire and Rescue, and a Red Deer County Livestock Response Unit worked with the Innisfail Auction Mart to free the cattle and safely move them to another trailer for transport. Police say local veterinarians were also called to assist with animal welfare during this process.

RCMP say about 12 calves were found deceased. The driver was taken to Innisfail Hospital with reportedly minor injuries.

Innisfail RCMP are continuing to investigate the incident.
