12 PEOPLE ARRESTED

Innisfail RCMP and sheriff SCAN team make drug trafficking bust in Innisfail

Nov 7, 2024 | 1:48 PM

Innisfail RCMP, with assistance from a variety of additional RCMP teams, arrested 12 people while executing search warrants on three residences allegedly connected to drug trafficking in the town of Innisfail.

Police say the searches took place on Nov. 5, where Innisfail RCMP were assisted by the RCMP Emergency Response Team, Sheriffs Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) Team, Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit, and the Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team.

As a result of the search, RCMP seized:

  • Cocaine
  • Methamphetamine
  • Items related to the sale of controlled drugs
  • A taser

Nicolas Caron, a 38-year-old resident of Innisfail, has been arrested and charged with unlawful possession of items intending to be used for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance.

Mounties say Caron was taken before a Justice of the Peace and released with his next court date set for Nov. 18, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.

Police further note a 46-year-old male and 38-year-old female, both Innisfail residents, have charges pending for unlawful possession of items intending to be used for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance.

Both have been released and are scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on Dec. 17, 2024.

A 45-year-old female resident of Innisfail also has charges pending for possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine. RCMP say she is scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on Dec. 17, 2024 as well.

“These individuals and properties were actively engaged in the distribution of drugs in the community,” said Staff Sergeant Ian Ihme, commander of the Innisfail RCMP detachment. “This joint effort was successful in interrupting them in the short term and we will work to ensure longer term solutions.”

The remainder of the people arrested were released, pending further police investigation.

Police say the search warrants and arrests were the result of a collaborative investigation by the Innisfail RCMP and the SCAN unit.

“The newly created central Alberta SCAN team’s close collaboration with law enforcement partners like the Innisfail RCMP detachment on this operation is making Alberta communities significantly safer. This work not only eradicates illegal activity, but also gives Albertans well-deserved peace of mind,” comments Mike Letourneau, superintendent of Alberta Sheriffs.
