Red Deer RCMP arrest two after drug trafficking investigation

Nov 6, 2024 | 1:24 PM

The Red Deer RCMP General Investigation Section along with assistance from the Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team, arrested two residents following a drug trafficking investigation.

As a result, Red Deer residents Destiny Green, 26, and Tyler Bye, 31, have been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of items used to traffic in controlled substances, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized.

In addition, Mounties say they’ve also been charged with possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and unsafe storage of a firearm. Green was also charged with failure to comply with a firearms prohibition.

On Oct. 30, RCMP arrested the individuals after police conducted search warrants at a motel room and a motor vehicle in north Red Deer.

While there, Mounties seized several items and controlled substances including fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, Canadian currency, two firearms, and other weapons and items related to trafficking controlled substances.

“The harm caused by fentanyl trafficking shows itself in many different ways” said Cst. Andrew Devine of Red Deer RCMP GIS.

“Any time police remove these dangerous substances from our neighbourhoods, we are making our community safer.”

Police say both individuals charged were taken before a Justice of the Peace and were remanded into custody.

Both Green and Bye are scheduled to appear in court Thursday, Nov. 7, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.
