A member of Innisfail town council, Councillor and former mayor Don Harrison, has died.

Innisfail Mayor Jean Barclay shared that he passed on November 1.

Harrison was a fourth-generation Innisfailian who grew up in the community before moving to attend post-secondary school, where he pursued and received both a degree and a technical diploma in forestry. He then took on many roles during his 37 years of work within the sectors of forestry and the environment for the provincial government.

He later returned to Innisfail to pursue municipal politics, serving as mayor and two terms as a councillor.

In a statement on his passing, Barclay shared, “Most important to Don was his wife and best friend Colleen, his family and friends, nature and conservation, and serving his community. He loved Innisfail and always championed to make our community better.”

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to Colleen and their family. Don will be truly missed by all of us, but he will not be forgotten. He faced these past few months with courage and grace. Thank you, Don, for your kindness, your professionalism, your mentorship, and your infectious positive attitude. Don was simply the best.”
