Nov 4, 2024 | 10:21 AM

Albertans are invited to participate in a conversation about the province’s long-term savings fund, the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund, by the Legislative Assembly Standing Committee on the fund on Nov. 6, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Members of the public are invited to attend the meeting in-person on the second floor of the Queen Elizabeth II Building (9820 107 Street, Edmonton) or watch live on Alberta Assembly TV online.

“This public meeting is an opportunity for Albertans to participate in an in-depth conversation with Members of the Legislative Assembly and those who oversee the fund’s management and investment,” said Tany Yao, MLA for Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo and chair of the committee. “We look forward to engaging with Albertans to help more people understand the importance of the fund.”

Experts from the Alberta Treasury Board and Finance and the Alberta Investment Management Corporation will provide an update on the fund’s performance, then there will be a Q & A session. Albertans not present in-person but wishing to ask a question can do so via Facebook and X using #abheritagefund, by email (Committee.Admin@assembly.ab.ca) or by phoning 1-800-717-1738, code 49609.

Those who are unable to attend or tune in should submit comments or questions online in advance of the meeting and they will be answered during the event.

The Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund is Alberta’s main long-term savings account. It was created in 1976 with savings from Alberta’s non-renewable resources. For more information about the Fund, including copies of its most recent quarterly and annual reports, visit Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund.

The Standing Committee on the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund reviews the quarterly reports and approves the annual report on the Fund and reports to the Legislative Assembly on whether the mission of the Fund is being fulfilled. The Committee is required to hold an annual public meeting with Albertans on the Fund’s investment activities and performance.
