Town of Ponoka introduces new notification system

Oct 31, 2024 | 4:24 PM

The Town of Ponoka has launched a new notification system that will keep residents informed with critical information more quickly.

To receive notifications, citizens can download the Voyent Alert app on their smartphones and if they don’t have a smartphone, alerts can be delivered by email, text, or recorded voice call.

The new service sends out alerts about utility service disruptions, large scale local emergencies, and other non-emergency alerts.

The utility service disruption notifications will be sent out when important utilities could be limited such as water and power. Some of these could include planned power outages and watermain breaks.

When it comes to local emergencies, the public will receive an alert in cases where it may require immediate action to protect your property or keep family safe.

The other non-emergency alerts will include road closures, parking bans during snow removal operations, town event notifications, and other general news.

Residents can also choose the types of alerts they want to receive.

“The Town is offering this new notification service to help ensure Ponoka residents and visitors receive critical information quickly,” said Ponoka Mayor Kevin Ferguson.

“By downloading the app or registering online to receive alerts by email, text or recorded voice calls, Ponoka citizens will be kept better informed about utility service disruptions or large-scale, local emergencies, allowing us all to make more informed decisions and be better prepared for these unexpected events.”

The public can download the Voyent Alert app on Google play or on the Apple App Store. Some android users may be unable to download it until Nov. 8.

Those who would rather register for a alerts by text, email, or voice message can register online here.
